Summer 2013

For the first time since we opened our shop in Saratoga, we offered weaving lessons. Students were able to choose their own projects and materials, based on previous experience. They produced scarves, table runners and mats, a small throw, and fabric yardage- impressive! We taught students each process from warping to dressing a loom, weaving and finishing. As one of our students exclaimed at the end of her session, " I will never look at fabric the same way again!"

Fall production for our retail shows and our wholesale accounts is in full swing. Here is a listing of the shows we will be exhibiting at this fall. We will keep our shop open normal hours as well. Hope to see you this fall in our booth at a show near you or at the shop wrapping up in our handwoven clothing!

Laundry Day

July is the month we usually get serious about fall scarf production. We've collected orders from shops and galleries since February, entered the data in our computer system, and printed out inventory reports specifying how many of each style is needed by each account and by when. In the "old" days (80's and very early 90's) I would chart the orders on huge pieces of graph paper.... I'm so glad the computer compiles all this data for us effortlessly now...so we can concentrate on designing and weaving!

After the warps come off the loom, we launder them to give them a lived-in softness. Here they're drying on our railing on a breezy July day. When dry, the long warps will be cut into individual scarves, steam-pressed, sewn, unfringed, labeled, then boxed up and sent to specialty shops around the country.

Happy Summer!

Getting ready for the summer crowds in Saratoga who spend alot of time outdoors in the evening at our fabulous SPAC outdoor ampitheatre or on the patios of our fabulous restaurants. We have the perfect accessory for cool summer evenings- a lacy shawl handwoven of bamboo fiber in a luscious pink and taupe combination.  I was pressing it and realized the reason we all love this color so-  it reminds us of neapolitan ice cream, where the strawberry and chocolate and vanilla all melt together soft and creamy.  Happy Summer everyone!
